The Phillips family, based in Lodi, California, has been tending to this land since the 1860s and growing wine grapes since the early 20th century. Michael and David Phillips, the founders and brothers, are fifth-generation grape growers who've nurtured their families within the vineyard. The sixth generation, consisting of Mike's son, Kevin, and daughter, Melissa, has now joined the team. They strongly believe in leaving the land better than they found it for future generations, shaping their commitment to sustainability. The Phillips family legacy and their love for Lodi are the driving forces behind their sustainable practices, and they also bring an element of fun to their work.
David Phillips, the Co-Owner and President, is an enthusiastic individual with a rich background. He was an early advocate of farmer's markets, started making wine at a young age, is a long-distance runner, a UC Davis alum, a staunch supporter of Lodi Wines, a cork enthusiast, a brother, husband, father, and an outdoor enthusiast. David began working on the family farm and vineyards early in life, returning to Lodi in 1989 after graduation. He secured a position in the wine cork industry and explored the world through backpacking. Over the years, he has seamlessly combined his passion for Michael David Winery wines with his love for travel, overseeing distribution from one state to all 50 and expanding to 32 countries.
Michael Phillips, the Co-Owner and Founder, is a lifelong tractor driver, UC Davis graduate, fifth-generation Lodi grape grower, brother, husband, father, grandfather, jet-setter, and un-traditionalist. Growing up in Lodi, Mike actively participated in harvests from a young age. Post-college, he aimed to showcase Lodi's winemaking potential and began planting unconventional grape varieties. In 1984, he established a small tasting room at his parents' farmstand, now known as Michael David Winery.
