"The 2017 7 Fuentes, a Listán Negro blend with some 10% Castellana Negra sourced from up to 25 vineyards from the La Orotava village. This represents a high percentage of their production with 67,000 bottles, which is more than half of their annual output. There were multiple fermentations, some in concrete, some in stainless steel, with around 10% full clusters and always with indigenous yeasts. Seventy percent of the volume was kept in concrete while the remaining 30% matured in used 500-liter oak barrels for nine months. This is a good barometer for the style, character and quality of the vintage, and it shows a little mellower and more approachable than the 2016. It's a little juicier within the pumice and black pepper style that always defines this wine. There are up to eight bottlings from the same master blend. Drink 2019-2022."

Suertes del Marqués operates as a family-run winery, crafting wines since 2006. However, their roots as vintners extend back two decades earlier, when they cultivated and sold grapes to other wineries in the Valle de La Orotava appellation.
Situated in the northern reaches of Tenerife on the Valle de La Orotava, the winery stands within the eponymous valley.
While honouring tradition remains integral to their winemaking ethos, Suertes del Marqués minimizes artificial intervention in their wine production. They prioritize working with indigenous yeasts, refrain from excessive manipulation such as racking, and limit sulphur usage.
Every aspect of cellar operations, from tending to the vines to harvesting, is executed by hand. They eschew systemic treatments in the vineyard, opting for natural remedies if vine diseases arise.
Within the cellar, fermentation occurs in unlined concrete tanks of varying sizes, followed by refinement for certain plots. Ageing takes place in French oak foudres of 500-liter capacity and larger sizes ranging from 2000 to 4500 liters. These vessels are viewed solely as tools for the refinement process, rather than imparting flavour nuances.
Additionally, stainless steel tanks of diverse volumes enable blending of different plot wines for their Village Wines and various casks for single vineyard wines before bottling.
Since 2006, this intimate family enterprise has championed native grape varieties and traditional vine training methods. They exclusively collaborate with growers from the Valle de La Orotava to preserve a viticultural and winemaking legacy spanning five centuries.
It's important to remember that taste is subjective, and personal preferences play a significant role.
