"The starting point of the Suertes del Marqués range is a wine of uninhibited, wild volcanic character and charm, a blend of multiple plots and altitudes with an arresting hard-to-pinpoint element that is somewhere between smokiness and paprika-like spiciness, and striking brightness to its black and red currant fruit. There's something cool-climate Syrah to it, and it's still amazing value."

94 points - Decanter Magazine, Dec 2022

"This red is a village wine from La Orotava. The 2019 7 Fuentes was produced with Listán Negro grapes with some 10% Castellana Negra from up to 25 different vineyards, mostly from the center and east of the valley where the grapes are mostly red, with vines ranging between 10 and 200 years old at altitudes of 300 to 700 meters on different soils, all volcanic but with more or less clay, silt and sand. It fermented with some 10% full clusters in concrete with indigenous yeasts and matured for six months, 60% in concrete and 40% of the volume in used 500-liter oak barrels, then blended and kept in stainless steel for a further five months. It has moderate alcohol, 12.6%, and mellow acidity. It showcases the minerality of the Orotava reds, with telltale aromas of volcanic ash, black peppercorns and dry roses. It has complexity that goes beyond an entry-level red. This is a wine that overdelivers for the price asked, and it is highly recommended.."

Suertes del Marqués

Suertes del Marqués operates as a family-run winery, crafting wines since 2006. However, their roots as vintners extend back two decades earlier, when they cultivated and sold grapes to other wineries in the Valle de La Orotava appellation.

Situated in the northern reaches of Tenerife on the Valle de La Orotava, the winery stands within the eponymous valley.

While honouring tradition remains integral to their winemaking ethos, Suertes del Marqués minimizes artificial intervention in their wine production. They prioritize working with indigenous yeasts, refrain from excessive manipulation such as racking, and limit sulphur usage.

Every aspect of cellar operations, from tending to the vines to harvesting, is executed by hand. They eschew systemic treatments in the vineyard, opting for natural remedies if vine diseases arise.

Within the cellar, fermentation occurs in unlined concrete tanks of varying sizes, followed by refinement for certain plots. Ageing takes place in French oak foudres of 500-liter capacity and larger sizes ranging from 2000 to 4500 liters. These vessels are viewed solely as tools for the refinement process, rather than imparting flavour nuances.

Additionally, stainless steel tanks of diverse volumes enable blending of different plot wines for their Village Wines and various casks for single vineyard wines before bottling.

Since 2006, this intimate family enterprise has championed native grape varieties and traditional vine training methods. They exclusively collaborate with growers from the Valle de La Orotava to preserve a viticultural and winemaking legacy spanning five centuries.
