The stunning Azienda Agricola Elvio Cogno is located in Novello, tucked away in the enchanting Langhe region, perched atop a hill overlooking the magnificent Ravera vineyards. Novello is among the eleven municipalities where the renowned Barolo wine is crafted. In this picturesque setting, the fourth generation of the family, Valter Fissore and Nadia Cogno, skillfully and passionately create wines in a classic style within a former granary, making judicious use of modern technology. Over the recent years, the wines produced by the winery, originally founded by Nadia's father Elvio, have developed a distinct and compelling identity.
The 18th-century manor house embodies discipline and precision, qualities that are mirrored in the production of their ten exquisite wines. Predominantly, they craft exceptional Barolo wines from prime vineyard sites, with Barbera d'Alba also playing a prominent role. Their vineyard's produce consistently garners high praise from respected wine critics. Notably, their 'Barolo Bricco Pernice' made from the finest parcels of the Ravera vineyard earned a prestigious 'Three Glasses' rating in the Gambero Rosso wine guide right from its initial release.
Nebbiolo, Barbera, Dolcetto, and Nascetta are the names of the native grape varieties that the Cogno family diligently cultivates in their vineyards. A few years ago, they revived the historical white Anas-cëtta variety, which is native to the Novello region and yields wines with brilliant straw-yellow hues and golden highlights. In their vineyards, the Cogno family prioritizes environmentally conscious practices, abstaining from the use of pesticides. This dynamic duo intentionally limits the grape yield per hectare, always striving to maintain the organic equilibrium of their vines.
