Tasting Notes

"The Bruno Rocca 2016 Barbaresco is a gorgeous wine that reveals impeccable balance, ongoing intensity and elegance, which accompany the wine from the start and continue straight through its long finish. The mouthfeel is buoyant and bright, yet there is a solid base of firm fruit and tannic backbone on the close. This is a buttoned-up and firmly etched expression of Nebbiolo from one of the most talented producers in Barbaresco. Great job, Bruno. He knocked out 15,426 of these beauties."

The Producer

Bruno Rocca

The history of the Bruno Rocca winery is inextricably tied to one of the most celebrated crus of the region - Rabajà. It was due to the intuition and courage of Francesco Rocca (1907-1978), that the family moved from the center of Barbaresco to the zone of Rabajà at its most southern point in 1958. The land in Rabajà had always been renowned for producing high quality grapes; in fact, they were sold at a significantly higher price than other nebbiolo grapes from Barbaresco. Further proof of its quality comes from the fact that the communal winery already bottled them separately under the label 'Vineyards from southwest Rabajà.'

In 1978, the first harvest was bottled for wine under the family name. Years of experimentation followed, during which time the wines of the Langhe – Barbaresco in particular – enjoyed an incredible growth in international fame. They have been focused on producing wines with distinctive character, unique for their unmistakable expression of an extraordinary territory.

The winery has purchased new vineyards beyond Barbaresco and began to produce other great wines of Piedmont: Langhe Nebbiolo, Barbera d’Alba, Dolcetto, and Chardonnay. Today, Bruno Rocca’s children Luisa and Francesco work alongside him in the family business.
