The Massimo Rattalino winery is situated atop one of the most esteemed hills in the Barbaresco region. A deliberate decision was made to focus almost entirely on cultivating the noble and versatile grape, showcasing the primary grape variety of Piedmont in the best possible light. The clear choice was to elevate this distinguished and serious grape, rich in narrative, which can only truly express itself with grace and longevity through meticulous care.
Precise management of the vineyards is crucial for delivering high-quality grapes to the cellar. The traditional Guyot vine training system is employed, and harvesting is done by hand. The vineyard receives meticulous care, influenced only by the natural variations that make each harvest distinct.
Yields are controlled, and manual harvesting ensures the grape’s quality. This embodies the philosophy of Massimo Rattalino: exceptional wines can only arise from exceptional raw materials. The work in the cellar seamlessly continues the vineyard's efforts. Fermentation primarily occurs in steel, while the choice for aging in large Slavonian oak barrels is made to enhance the finesse of the wines. This is reserved exclusively for the more robust Barbaresco and Barolo varieties.
It's important to remember that taste is subjective, and personal preferences play a significant role.
