Punset has been a family-owned estate for four generations. Marina Marcarino, the owner and winemaker, is the first in her family to take on the role at a young age. Prior to her involvement, Punset was a delightful hobby initiated by her great-grandfather, producing wine solely for family consumption.
At the age of 20, while still a student, Marina transitioned the vineyard to organic cultivation in 1982. At that time, Punset was the only estate in the entire region, and one of the very few in Italy, practising organic farming. The winery officially received certification with the introduction of the first Italian organic regulations in 1987.
Since 1990, Punset has embraced biodynamic practices. In 2007, Marina became captivated by the agricultural method of Masanobu Fukuoka and adopted it for cultivating the vineyards. Marina Marcarino strongly values the distinctiveness of the terroir and the expression of the grape varieties. Consequently, since the early 1990s, she has committed to completely natural winemaking, opting for indigenous yeast over selected varieties and avoiding intensive clarifications, stabilizations, and filtrations. A minimal addition of sulfites is applied before bottling to support the wine during extended aging.
Punset wines undergo lengthy refinement and are released to the market when they achieve a balanced and expressive profile, capable of aging for many years. Located in Neive, in the Langhe Region, Punset's flagship product is the Barbaresco wine, representing the core expression of the described philosophy. The 17-hectare estate exclusively cultivates indigenous varieties: Nebbiolo, Dolcetto, Barbera, Arneis, and Nascetta.
It's important to remember that taste is subjective, and personal preferences play a significant role.
