The Producer

Quinta de Couselo

The winery's history intertwines closely with the Monastery of Santa María de Oia. Positioned majestically on the Atlantic Ocean's shores, nestled in a rocky cove between A Guardia and Baiona, the Cistercian Monastery of Santa María la Real de Oia began construction in 1136 during Alfonso VII's reign.

From its inception, the monastery maintained ties with O Rosal valley. Monks acquired properties and fostered vine cultivation, utilizing the valley's favourable climate for rest and retreat. Notable among these estates is Quinta de Couselo, formerly known as the farm da Cheira, which the monks owned until the 1835 confiscation. The Vicente family held the property for nearly 150 years, passing it to Grandes Pagos Gallegos de Viticulture Tradicional in 2013.

This intimate winery, rooted in family tradition, reflects a passion for wine and environmental respect. Currently overseen by Grandes Pagos Gallegos de Viticulture Tradicional, the winery strives to continue its historical legacy. Quinta de Couselo emphasizes a commitment to tradition, adapting it to modern technology to achieve the utmost quality in wines, spirits, and liqueurs.
