Tasting Notes

"The vineyard at the top within the centre of Cannubi itself is outstanding: three hectares on sand and limestone soils from a combination of Tortonian and Elvetian epochs. Aged in Slavonian oak vessels, this example shows its open-knit grace with peachy sweetness of fruits, with touches of red berries and mint. Lighter bodied than usual, its naturally refreshing acidity and firm yet ripe tannins are completed by an amazing savoury character with a liquorice finish."

"The 2017 Barolo Cannubi is another terrific wine from 2017 Barolo Cannubi. Expressive and translucent in the glass, the 2017 is wonderfully expressive from the moment it is first poured. Sweet red cherry, blood orange, mint, spice, chalk and white pepper lend striking aromatic presence. Deceptively medium in body, the 2017 has plenty of grip. It is one of the finest wines I have tasted from Fratelli Serio & Battista Borgogno."

The Producer

Fratelli Serio & Battista Borgogno

Since 1897 this family-run winery has produced legendary wines from their Cannubi vineyard. If Italy were to employ the same vineyard classification system as Burgundy, there is no arguing that Cannubi would be amongst the Grand Crus. Frankly, there is little argument that it would be the King amongst even that elite company of celebrated and famous vineyards. Today, the 5th generation (Emanuela and Federica) in this family wine company continue to make beautiful and authentic wines from their stellar vineyards throughout Langhe.
