Fratelli Ferraro is a small but distinguished family run estate. The Gattera Barolo is produced from a single vineyard in La Morra and is traditionally made in large oak casks for just a hint of oak to showcase the Nebbiolo grape.

"Pretty nose with ripe plum and strawberry, as well as dried flowers and a hint of mild spice. Medium-to full-bodied with fine, lightly firm tannins, encasing a delicate, ripe-fruit core...Finishes clean, firm and balanced."

Fratelli Ferrero

The Ferrero winery's history traces back to the early 20th century in the quaint town of l’Annunziata. It all began when Settimo Giuseppe, Renato's maternal grandfather, embarked on this venture. Even in those early days, the winery had a diverse character, with a focus on the coveted Nebbiolo grapes. A notable plaque awarded to him by the town of La Morra in 1933 stands as a testament to the dedication and love for winemaking that has always defined the Ferrero winery.

However, the tumultuous times of World War II led to the removal of the vineyards to make space for wheat. This was further exacerbated by a widespread phylloxera epidemic across Europe, a destructive pest for grapevines.

In the 1950s, Lorenzo Ferrero, Renato's father, revived the family vineyards. He did so by grafting native rootstocks onto American vine rootstocks, the only ones capable of resisting the aphid infestation. During this period, some of the grapes were vinified and sold, gradually establishing a modest market. Barolo and Nebbiolo were already being bottled at that time, while other wines were primarily sold in bulk. Sadly, Lorenzo's untimely passing in 1966 led to a slowdown in the business.

Subsequently, a young Renato and his older brother took up winemaking once more, solidifying their efforts with the introduction of the DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) in the 1980s. However, due to the company's small size, his brother eventually departed. From that point forward, Renato dedicated himself wholeheartedly to the winery he inherited from his father, gradually initiating its expansion.

Since the 1990s, Nina has been working alongside her husband, Renato, in managing the winery. Now, the fourth generation has taken the reins, with Nina and Renato's sons, Andreas and Jonas, leading the winery. They have introduced fresh ideas and innovative production methods while preserving the traditions of the past.

At present, the Ferrero winery spans approximately 4 hectares and produces around 30,000 bottles annually.
