This Bordeaux Supérieur is a Merlot-dominated blend, with a 30% of Cabernet Sauvignon. The nose is intense and elegant, rich in black fruit such as blackcurrant and blackberry, and vibrant sweet spices aromas, completed with pastry and floral nuances. The palate is supple, generous and round, supported by fine and silky tannins, a well integrated oak and excellent balance.
"Deeply-coloured and clearly ripe, also still notably wood-inflected, this is a thick and chewy red Bordeaux, maturing but on the cusp between youthful fruit and savoury maturity - a fine time to enjoy it. I like the density and weight on the palate, the voluptuous and sweet, dark fruit flavours, and the velvety tannins. The finish, too, is impressively long in the category. A very solid value all in all."

Château Tour de Gilet is located in Ludon-en-Médoc, just south of Margaux on the Bordeaux left-bank. Prestigious Grand Cru Classé estates, such as Château Cantemerle, scatter around this small village. Built on the foundation of an ancient abbey from the 12th century, Château Tour de Gilet has been well-known for its outstanding value.
Even in the medieval period the estate’s vineyard was surrounded by 'jalles' or small crisscrossing drainage canals to help produce wines of higher quality. Today, oenologist Claude Gaudin makes an extraordinary wine at this diminutive property, using techniques such as dense planting in the vineyard, green harvesting to lower the yield, strict sorting at the harvest, and very natural wine making for maximum expression of the fruit.
Claude Gaudin is renowned for turning out several of Bordeaux’s best Petits Châteaux wines. In addition to Château Tour de Gilet, Gaudin fashions two outstanding Petits Châteaux that border the Margaux commune, Château Barreyre and Château Laronde Desormes, as well as the celebrated Château Maurac Haut Médoc, whose neighbors are the renowned Château Sociando-Mallet and Château Charmail in Sainte-Estèphe.
