Brunello di Montalcino DOCG by Castello Romitorio 2010

Brunello di Montalcino DOCG

by Castello Romitorio 2010

Producer : Castello Romitorio

Region : Italy (Italy), Tuscany (Italy)

Bottle Per Case : 6 x 750 ml

Tasting Notes

"The 2010 Brunello di Montalcino is a gorgeous expression that will appeal to those who adore the softer and spicier side of Sangiovese. Bold cherry and blackberry stand to immediate attention with secondary aromas of tobacco, cedar and cinnamon in quick succession. The wine delivers more in terms of boldness and power than it does complexity but the overall effect works beautifully considering the quality of fruit in 2010. The style is upfront and bold with deep layers of richness and opulence. The wine is appropriate for medium-term consumption and would pair beautifully with stewed meats."

The Producer

Castello Romitorio

Perched on the highest hill in the rugged Northwest corner of Montalcino, Castello di Romitorio stands like a guardian over the Brunello DOCG zone. One of the most famous living artists, Sandro Chia, acquired the property in 1984. The purchase included the Castello Romitorio farm which was re-deditcated to the production of Montalcino DOCs. Today Sandro’s son Filippo Chia is the owner and winemaker of the estate. Sandro Chia, a renowned painter and sculptor continues to design all the labels and is still an active artist. The Romitorio vineyards are small plots of land amongst hectares of virgin woods, interspersed with ponds and streams of crystal clear water. They surround the Castle on a hill that, coming down from Monte Amiato towards Siena, runs parallel with the Montalcino slopes. A completely unspoiled landscape with fossil rich galestro, clay, and albarese soil.
