Tasting Notes

“The whole crunchiness of the fruit of the north-east area of Montalcino in this refined and powerful reading of Brunello from one of the most reliable signatures of the denomination. Small red fruits to the nose, with notes of raspberry and arbutus, then touches of nutmeg and floral, of carnation. Juicy mouthfeel, sapid tannins, spicy return.”

The Producer

Altesino

Altesino is a renowned winery located in the picturesque hills of Montalcino, in the Tuscany region of Italy. The winery was founded in 1970 by a visionary lawyer, Giulio Consonno, who saw the potential of the area to produce exceptional wines. Altesino is known for producing exceptional Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montalcino and Super Tuscan wines.

Since its inception, the winery has been managed by the same family. In 2002, the founder's son, Claudio Basla, took over the reins of the winery. Claudio is an innovative owner and has implemented new technologies in the vineyards and winemaking processes to enhance the quality of the wines. The winemaker, Simone Giunti, is an expert in crafting wines that reflect the terroir of the region.

The vineyards of Altesino cover approximately 80 hectares and are situated at an altitude of 350-450 meters above sea level. The soil is rich in minerals and is ideal for growing Sangiovese grapes, the primary grape variety used in the production of Brunello di Montalcino. The vineyards benefit from the warm and dry Mediterranean climate, which ensures the grapes ripen fully, resulting in rich and complex wines.

Altesino has received numerous accolades and awards for its exceptional wines, including the prestigious Wine Spectator's Top 100 Wines of the Year. Altesino was the first winery in Montalcino to introduce barriques for aging wine, a technique that has since become a standard in the region.
