Burgundy Regions

Burgundy is made up of several subregions, each offering a distinct expression of terroir and grape variety:

  • Chablis – Crisp, mineral-driven Chardonnay with high acidity.
  • Côte de Beaune – Elegant whites and soft, refined Pinot Noirs.
  • Côte de Nuits – The heart of red Burgundy, producing structured Pinot Noirs.
  • Côte Chalonnaise & Mâconnais – Approachable, great-value Burgundy wines.

Wine Online features a range of imported red and white wines from top Burgundy producers.

Burgundy Grapes

Burgundy wines are made almost exclusively from two noble grape varieties: Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

Pinot Noir thrives in the cool climate and limestone soils of the Côte d'Or, while Chardonnay showcases purity from Chablis to Côte de Beaune.

Burgundy Classifications

  • Regional Wines – Labeled "Bourgogne", accessible Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
  • Village Wines – From specific communes like Pommard or Meursault.
  • Premier Cru – From designated superior vineyards within a village.
  • Grand Cru – Top-tier vineyard sites with exceptional quality and longevity.

Burgundy Wine Colour

Red Burgundy wines show a translucent ruby-red hue that deepens with age. White Burgundy ranges from pale gold to straw yellow, gaining richness over time.

These visual cues often mirror the wine’s development and origin.

The Magnien family is one of the oldest wine making families in Burgundy and in particular in Côte de Nuits thanks to the Domaine Henri Magnien, a family estate that took root in Gevrey Chambertin in the 1600s. No less than twelve generations have taken advantage of a magnificent plot made largely of old vines on Gevrey-Chambertin and Corton.

The estate as it exists today was set up by Henri Magnien in 1987, and presently operated by Charles Magnien. The vineyard covers 6 hectares of old vines (massal selection of the family). The culture and the vinification are rather traditional. Charles invested in the cellar to further increase the quality of the wines opening a new winery in 2018. The wines have a lot of charm, suppleness and elegance, with a classic use of the new barrel and a moderate extraction.
