"Here's an attractive, evolving, openly aromatic cabernet of high quality from the Sonoma Valley AVA and the volcanic soils of the Pickberry Vineyard on the slopes of Sonoma Mountain, showing a broad mix of both red and black berry/cherry fruit with pine and redwood, minty-resinous-herbal-licorice notes, very much in the varietal spectrum. Wood is a well-integrated part of the ensemble, coming across as a balanced and classy accoutrement. I love the supple, suave texture, the polished, ripe tannins, the balanced, adequate acids to hold the flavours together, and the genuine depth and length. A very sophisticated, polished and classy cabernet all in all, and excellent value in the context of premium North Coast wines. Across the hills in Napa County you'd pay considerably more for wine at this level. Tasted November 2020."

Before founding Tin Barn Vineyards in 2000, Michael Lancaster fled the corporate world, and he did so on two wheels, pedalling through some of the world’s most fabled wine regions. Returning to his native Toronto a year later, he knew he’d never wear a suit and tie again. He headed to Northern California to attend the renowned University of California at Davis enology program. After working for the critically acclaimed, Gloria Ferrer Champagne Caves, he moved to Quail Ridge Cellars, where he was eventually promoted to winemaker.
Tin Barn Vineyards sprawls over 30 rolling acres on the northeast slope of Sonoma Mountain. Much like the “real” Tin Barn Road where he discovered the winery’s first fruit source, the path is steep and the views, incomparable.
