In the 1750s, the Echeverria family made a significant move from the Basque region of Spain, a place known for producing excellent wines, to Chile. They settled north of Santiago and began cultivating their agricultural land, which included planting various crops, including vineyards. Fast forward to 2019, and more than two and a half centuries later, the Echeverria family still diligently tends to their estate winery. Surprisingly, their vineyards and residence have remained virtually unchanged from their original location nearly a hundred years ago in Chile's Central Valley, where they first established their fully operational winery.
Heading the winemaking operations since 2001 is Roberto Echeverria Jr. He skillfully combines the innovation of the new world with the elegance of the old world, drawing on his family's rich history. Viña Echeverria boasts a diverse portfolio of over thirty wines, including a selection of French varietals. Their sprawling sixty-five-hectare estate is home to Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, Viognier, Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Merlot, Pinot Noir, and Cabernet Franc vineyards. Notably, all their grapes are meticulously hand-harvested and promptly transported to the winery, a significant advantage of having an estate winery. This ensures that the grapes always arrive in prime condition, preserving their freshness and contributing to the overall quality of the final wines.
The Echeverria family takes immense pride in the fact that their cherished traditions are beautifully expressed through their wines. Each wine possesses an elegant and refined character, marked by concentrated and captivating aromas, as well as remarkable flavors, all of which are drawn from Chile's beloved and idyllic landscape. Furthermore, the family is committed to economic, environmental, and social sustainability. They employ organic farming methods, use biodegradable products, implement flood irrigation, and actively promote the natural biodiversity of their land.
