Tasting Notes

Andy Erickson did a fabulous job with the 2022 Leviathan, highlighting some of the top regions in Northern California, including Red Hills, Coombsville, and Moon Mountain. Big, brash and dark purple in colour, this exudes aromas of black cherry, plum and cocoa, with violets, sage and even a kiss of cedar. It’s a voluptuous wine with supple tannins that are actually amazingly round and smooth already. Don't hesitate to drink now, but you can also cellar this for over 5+ years.

"Always a good value, the 2021 California Red Wine is no exception and has darker berry fruits, some leafy herb, sage, lavender, and chocolate nuances, full-bodied richness, and a lush, round, seamless style that's already impossible to resist. This is primarily Cabernet Sauvignon (with plenty of other red varieties), and it should shine for 7-8 years, if not a decade, although I would drink this puppy in its youth."

The Producer

Leviathan Wine

Leviathan is the creation of husband and wife team Andy Erickson and Annie Favia-Erickson. Andy has spent time as winemaker at Screaming Eagle, Dalla Valle, Ovid, Dancing Hares and Arietta, with prior work at Harlan and Staglin, while Annie got her start with John Kongsgaard and Cathy Corison, before spending more than a decade as a viticulturist with David Abreu. The San Francisco Chronicle’s Jon Bonné said about the Ericksons, “Together they could probably create a 98-point wine in their sleep.”
