"The young vine bottling from Il Carnasciale is a beautiful wine in the 2020 vintage, coming in at 13.5 percent octane and offering up a pure and refined bouquet of red and black cherries, Cuban cigar wrapper, fresh oregano, a lovely base of dark soil tones, coffee bean, woodsmoke and a deft framing of cedary new oak. On the palate the wine is deep, full-bodied, focused and complex, with fine depth at the core, tangy acids, lovely balance and a long, poised and ripely tannic finish. Though this has fine structure to age, it will not take a tremendously long time to start to drink with distinction. 2028-2065+."

Il Carnasciale

Podere Il Carnasciale is located in the southern Chianti mountains within the Valdarno di Sopra region of Tuscany, positioned thirty kilometers to the north of Siena and Arezzo, and 60 kilometers to the south of Florence. Following the original owner Wolf Rogosky's vision, the secluded hilltop estate is currently managed by Bettina and her son Moritz Rogosky, in collaboration with enologists and winemakers Peter Schilling and Marco Maffei.

Specializing in the Caberlot variety, a naturally occurring blend of Merlot and Cabernet Franc, Podere Il Carnasciale proudly considers itself a 'haute couture' winery. Meticulous attention and craftsmanship are dedicated to every aspect of their vineyard and cellar work, with a commitment to detail, precision, and quality. All vineyard tasks, including pruning, budding, and leaf management, are carried out by hand, emphasizing a profound respect for both the soil and the vines. The estate refrains from using chemical fertilizers, herbicides, or pesticides in their hands-on approach to winemaking.
