"The 2014 Carro is a ridiculous value in a full-bodied, complex, rich and savory dry red wine. Dense ruby/purple with notes of blackberry and blueberry fruit, licorice and camphor, the wine is totally unoaked and naked. This is a beauty of purity and richness and just goes to show what one can buy if careful with researching importers. Drink it over the next several years."

Señorio de Barahonda is the oldest winery in the Yecla DO region of Spain. Its history started around 1850 when Pedro Candela Soriano started to produce and sell small amounts of wine locally. In 1925, when the late Antonio Candela García inherited a small production facility, the history of the winery officially started. Nowadays, his two sons, Antonio and Alfredo, take the helm and manage the wineries and the family estates.
From a small and local business to a modern winery which produces quality wines highly appreciated in the international markets, the knowledge and traditions have been handed down through these four generations. The Candela Family has spent a lifetime working with wine and Barahonda is the visible result of this passion.
Winemaker Augustin Carrion is one of the key figures whose work has shown the potential of Monastrell in Yecla. Monastrell is better known as Mourvédre in France's Chateauneuf-du-Pape appellation, where the terroir and climate are similar to Yecla. Both regions have a Mediterranean climate with warm days and nights.
