"This platinum winner at the National Wine Awards is super-bright, squeaky clean and vibrant, with a lovely collage of green apple, toast/ smoke, citrus and mineral aromas and flavours. It is mid-weight, edged with some sense of Chablis-like stoniness. Creamy yet juicy, with excellent length. Great value." 92 points - David Lawrason, Feb 2018
"A classically-styled, cool climate chardonnay with more than a touch of flinty-stony-reduction, crafted with care and to precise parameters. 2013 was by no means an easy Niagara vintage, but the net result of the stressful year was resilient grapes with a wide range of flavours from honey to white flowers to cool fruit of all stripes: citrus, apple, pear and the like. Complexity and poise are excellent here; no wonder this was awarded a WineAlign platinum medal in 2017. And at this price, it's a steal." 92 points - John Szabo MS, Feb 2018

On the nose, scents of white flowers, wet stone, and cantaloupe emerge over top hints of black licorice and fresh herbs. The palate is medium dry with concentrated pink grapefruit and mandarin orange on the attack, giving way to yellow cherry fruit on the mid-palate. The finish is very persistent, with notes of crushed stone, spice and citrus zest. The long, cool ripening of this vintage has delivered remarkable flavour complexity and a seamless integration of body and acidity on the palate.

"Limpid straw. Vibrant, mineral-accented citrus and orchard fruit scents carry a chalky mineral overtone and a suggestion of ginger. Brisk and sharply focused on the palate, offering nervy orange zest and honeysuckle flavors that deepen and spread out on the back half. Smoothly plays power off delicacy and finishes long and stony, with strong mineral cut and repeating florality."

Matsu
Spain (Spain), Toro (Spain)
12 x 750 ml
Breads, Cured Meat, Hard Cheese, Red Meat, Roasted Vegetables
Picaro means 'rogue' or 'rascal', and this rapscallion of a wine is a youthful interpretation of the Toro region's style. The grapes come from mature vines of over 50 years of age, but the wine spends only three months in oak, preserving their natural fruit profile. Vivid crimson-purple in the glass. Aromas are of ripe blackberries and raspberries, with subtle hints of fresh cocoa. The palate is bold yet supple, with ripe tannins and a mineral grip. Enjoy on its own or with boldly flavoured pasta dishes or spicy meat skewers.
