    Domaine Bachelet-Monnot

    Burgundy (France), France (France)

    6 x 750 ml

Breads, Cured Meat, Rich Fish, Soft Cheese, White Meat

"Bright green-yellow. Subdued nose dominated by clove and nut oil; clearly from the Meursault side of the appellation. Plush, tactile and rich but quite minerally and taut, thanks to the firm acidity provided by these early-harvested, very millerandé old vines. Still a bit youthfully disjointed, with the finish showing serious limey cut that I don't usually associate with young Referts. This wine was 12.5% potential alcohol chaptalized to 13%, and production was just 35 hectoliters per hectare."

"The 2014 Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Les Perrières is backward, minerally and aloof on the nose, but give it a couple of minutes in the glass and it reveals some lovely lime flower and wet granite scents. The palate is fresh and vibrant on the entry, lively from start to finish, so vivacious in the mouth that you think it is compensating for the backward aromatics. It fans out wonderfully on the finish that shimmers with energy. This is a sublime expression of the vineyard."

"A wonderfully fresh and cool array is comprised by notes of apple, pear and acacia blossom. There is excellent volume to the attractively textured and relatively full-bodied flavors that possess good punch and a subtle minerality on the bitter lemon-infused finish. Note that this should drink well young."

"The 2014 Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru les Macherelles has a taut and precise bouquet, more tightly wound than the Puligny-Montrachet Villages with lovely oyster shell and wet limestone notes emerging with time. The palate is crisp and fresh on the entry, a dash of spice to get things started before aligning itself to a more classic, linear and tensile Chassagne that unsurprisingly surpasses the Puligny-Montrachet Villages. This is excellent."

"The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet les Referts 1er Cru, like the Perrières, is more reticent and austere on the nose than the Champ Canet, but there are some lovely granitic scents coming through. The palate is very linear, quite spicy and long, building gradually to the complex finish with touches of lemongrass and Thai fish oil. Wonderful."

"The 2013 Puligny-Montrachet les Perrières 1er Cru has a much more reticent bouquet than its fellow premier crus at the moment, much more austere and aloof. The palate is taut on the entry with good weight, very finely tuned acidity, tightly coiled, but full of energy at the moment. While the other premier crus will be approachable almost from the off, this will need three or four years in bottle, but I suspect it will turn out to be one of the finest wines from the appellation."

"A fresh, cool and airy nose features notes of citrus, acacia blossom and green apple. There is fine intensity to the detailed middle weight flavors that exude touches of salinity and minerality, all wrapped in a delicious, complex and balanced finale. This is a lovely and ageworthy Puligny villages and worth considering."

"Aromas of pear and resiny apple. Juicy and intense, showing a fine-grained texture and good floral lift to its pear and stone flavors. I like this young wine's precision and length. Jacques Carillon noted that this cuvee is becoming more minerally as the vines mature."

"An aroma of lemon is complicated by yellow and white flowers. Concentrated, juicy and classic, with its flavors of white peach and flowers conveying an irresistibly sappy, gulpable quality. Classic fresh Chassagne with real grip and length. The Bachelet brothers make this rather powerful village wine very reductively."

"Healthy bright yellow; darker than the Chassagne. Sexy aromas and flavors of musky peach and spices. Plush, smooth and very dry in the mouth, conveying a tactile quality to its sappy, savory stone fruit flavors. Finishes fine and long, with noteworthy depth. A higher percentage of old vines here."
