This is the cuvée  formerly known as “Tradition” , 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay, aged 4 years sur lie.

From the very first cuvée, Egly-Ouriet distinguished itself with the ability to preserve exacting precision and outstanding chalk-mineral focus in the midst of magnificent generosity. This is a wine of calm authority, carrying the full grandeur and complexity of carefully tended, old-vine pinot noir on some of Champagne's most revered Grand Crus. It juxtaposes freshness and depth: one one hand a marvel of red cherries, plums, dried fruits, and mixed spice with rippling intensity; on the other, impeccably focused with scintillating acidity and mineral-infused poise. A paradox of luxurious generosity and crystalline purity.

There are winemakers who craft fine wine, and then there are artists who redefine their craft. When we witnessed the transition in the 1980s from Michael Egly to his son, Francis, it was clear that Francis wasn’t going to be satisfied with the Champagne status quo. He doesn’t consider his competition to be among the great Champagne houses, but instead among the legendary producers of Burgundy. Egly’s practice of harvesting very ripe grapes and aging their wines in barrels for years longer than almost any other Champagne houses, are some of the practices that set his art apart from the rest; yet it is the results that captivate. Egly-Ouriet Champagne is age-worthy, sumptuous and at times surreal; these bottles are unquestionably the pinnacle of Pinot Noir-based Champagne.
