The Producer

Metz Road

Metz Road specializes in crafting exquisite small-lot, single-vineyard Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays exclusively sourced from the renowned Riverview Vineyard. Nestled along the eastern benchlands of the picturesque Salinas Valley, this vineyard's distinct charm is deeply rooted in its cold-climate setting, attributed to the presence of decomposed granite soils, enveloping morning fog, and the relentless winds that sweep in from Monterey Bay, situated about 40 miles to the north.

The unique combination of these environmental factors imparts a singular vinous personality to the grapes cultivated at Riverview, setting them apart from their counterparts in the Santa Lucia Highlands, located directly across the valley. The influence of the decomposed granite soils, coupled with the interplay of the morning fog and the bracing winds from the bay, creates a terroir that lends a remarkable and unparalleled character to the wines produced by Metz Road.

One notable technique employed by Metz Road is the use of on-site fermentations with wild yeast, a method that allows the grapes to express their unique, natural characteristics. This meticulous approach to winemaking ensures that the intrinsic qualities of Riverview's grapes are preserved and showcased in every bottle produced by Metz Road.
