The 2018 “La Bauge” is a classic Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noir. It is a wine of great aromatics and character showing black cherry/cranberry fruit, rose petal, earth and spice. It has a lavish structure and rich wood scents. Balance is the key to this wine. A balance of oak and fruit, a balance of tannin and acid, and a balance of elegance and intensity. The "La Bauge" Pinots have a more integrated structure and suppleness early on, making them enjoyable now, though they will age well.

La Bauge Au-dessus translates as a “wild party up stairs”. The majority of the fruit is from the hillsides of the prestigious Bien Nacido Vineyard backed by our estate Le Bon Climat Vineyard. The quality of Le Bon Climat vineyard Pinot Noir was apparent within the first three years, so some of the better lots from both vineyards are blended each year to create another year of the “wild party up stairs”. The "La Bauge" Pinots have the distinctive Santa Maria Valley regional fruit character but with a more integrated structure and suppleness early on, making it enjoyable now, though it will continue to improve with age. It is a does not compete with food but maximizes the dining experience by complimenting whatever is paired with it.

Au Bon Climat is one of those estates whose reputation precedes them. Since 1982, owner/winemaker, Jim Clendenen has profoundly shaped the landscape of quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in California’s Central Coast, creating pure expressions of Santa Barbara County before the region was immortalized in the 2004 movie, Sideways, and long before it became the go-to appellation for “The New California.”
It's important to remember that taste is subjective, and personal preferences play a significant role.
