Tasting Notes

Infused with some of the world’s finest Merlot real estate, the entrancing aromatics and concentration of a top vintage, and the nuance of a long maturation in neutral French oak, today’s 2020 Hyon-Lafleur is off-the-charts delicious, and the greatest of all three Berrouet wines we have offer. It offers the pleasure of Vieux Chateau Saint Andre, with the brooding power of Chateau Samion. All you need to do is decant for 30 minutes, serve in large Bordeaux stems, and enjoy layers of seductively dark, red berries and fruit that spring forth from a complex bed of crushed stone, truffle, warm earth, clay, and cigar box. This is the kind of wine that can only be produced here, and only by growers who are able to fully trust noble Merlot to be its truest self.

The Producer

Château Hyon La Fleur

Produced by the Château Bonneau team in Montagne Saint-Emilion, Château Hyon La Fleur, classified in the Saint-Emilion Grand Cru appellation until the 2015 vintage, was reclassified from its 2016 vintage in the Saint-Emilion appellation because the production cellar was not located in the appellation of origin. This administrative decision does not detract from this wine of a very beautiful density and smoothness and always easy to access. On average, 18,000 bottles leave the cellar each year.
