Tasting Notes

"Coming all from the sandy soils of the Cristia lieu-dit, the 2012 Châteauneuf du Pape Vieilles Vignes is a knockout effort that’s up with the top wines in the vintage. Giving up thrilling Grenache-driven notes of licorice soaked blackberries, caramelized meats, chocolate and roasted herbs, it hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a beautiful texture and superb overall balance and length. In short, it’s a knockout old-vine Grenache cuvée to drink over the coming decade or longer."

95 points - Jeb Dunnuck, Wine Advocate, Oct 2014

The Producer

Domaine De Cristia

Domaine de Cristia has come on like gangbusters over the last decade, since proprietors Baptiste Grangeon took over from his father in 1999.... This superb producer fashions tasty Cotes du Rhones and Cotes du Rhone-Villages meant to be consumed during their first few years of life. - Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate

Created by Etienne Grangeon 70 years ago, the property originally comprised 2 hectares of Grenache. It was developed further by the driving force of his son Alain, who joined the domaine in 1963. Passionate about viticulture, he notably contributed to the expansion of the domaine and planted improved grape varieties such as Syrah and Mourvèdre and created the identity of Cristia, based on the knowledge and respect of his soils.

If you haven't figured it out yet, this is one of the up-and coming new superstar producers... thanks to the inspired efforts of proprietors Alain and Baptiste Grangeon. The style here seems to be a synthesis of old-line tradition with their emphasis on ancient Grenache vines and a healthy respect for modernist techniques. - Robert Parker
