Tasting Notes

"The 2013 Chianti Classico wears oversized aromas of dark fruit and cherry that suit the wine very nicely. This is an outwardly generous and beautifully intense wine that mirrors all the high qualities of this celebrated vintage. Red fruit notes of cherry and cassis are woven within a greater context that sees crushed mineral and spice. The growing season was slow and steady leading to perfectly ripe fruit. Isole e Olena adds a bit of Canaiolo to the Sangiovese and those deep, dark fruit elements of the added grape come out strongly in this vintage."

The Producer

Isole e Olena

The name 'Isole e Olena' originated in the 1950s when the De Marchi family acquired and merged two neighbouring estates, 'Isole' and 'Olena,' both with centuries-old histories. Situated in the heart of the Chianti Classico region, halfway between Siena and Florence, the estate holds a significant location.

Paolo De Marchi, a fourth-generation winemaker, pursued studies in Agriculture at the University of Turin and gained experience through multiple harvests in California and France. Upon his arrival at the family estate in 1976, relocating from his hometown in Piemonte, Paolo identified substantial opportunities for enhancement and modernization in the Chianti Classico region. One of his initial initiatives involved establishing vineyards dedicated to international grape varieties. Through these progressive steps, Paolo ultimately uncovered a way to harmonize tradition and innovation.
