"The 2016 Chianti Rùfina is an incredibly beautiful and polished wine. Gracious and light on its feet, with striking persistence, the 2016 is all class. Bright floral notes and silky, refined tannins add to the wine's alluring personality. What a gorgeous wine this is. Don't miss it."
92 points - Antonio Galloni, Vinous Media, Feb 2019
"A focused style, with cherry and plum flavors accented by a smoky note. Juicy and balanced, leaving hints of earth and tobacco on the long finish. Drink now through 2033."

In Medieval times, Selvapiana served as a watchtower along the river Sieve, built to safeguard Florence on its North-Eastern border. During the Renaissance, it was expanded and converted into a summer residence for noble Florentine families and bishops. In 1827, it was acquired by Michele Giuntini, a successful banker and ancestor of Francesco Giuntini, the current owner. Francesco has been at the helm since 1957, making him the fifth generation to manage the property.
Francesco was a pioneering Tuscan producer, creating the Riserva wine exclusively from Sangiovese grapes and introducing the flagship Bucerchiale wine from a single vineyard. Since 1997, Selvapiana has been under the stewardship of Francesco's adopted sons, Federico and Silvia, the children of estate manager Franco Masseti, who collaborated with Francesco from 1953 to 1990.
The property spans 250 hectares, with 58 dedicated to vineyards, 36 to olive gardens, and 140 to woods in Rufina, Pontassieve, and Pelago. Rufina's vineyards, situated on the Apennines' foothills, benefit from the proximity to the mountains, influencing the microclimate with cooler summers and significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. This slow ripening process yields a well-balanced grape with fresh acidity, finesse, elegance, silky tannins, and a lingering aftertaste.
Most vineyards surround the Villa, the winery's focal point, named after the old mezzaria podere (crop-sharing system): Bucerchiale, Fornace, Casanova, Pesalova, Vigna al Pino. Recently acquired vineyards include Vigneto San Martino a Quona in Pontassieve and Vigneto Pian de’ Marroni and Vigneto Cerbognole in Rufina.
Selvapiana is a certified organic winery. The new vinification cellar enables meticulous and straightforward winemaking. Vinification occurs in stainless steel with temperature control and partially in concrete casks from the previous cellar. Ageing takes place in oak barrels beneath the Villa and partly in barriques in the new cellar.
