Tasting Notes

Villargeau vineyards are in very close proximity (slightly up river) to those of Sancerre & Pouilly Fume. The result are wines similar in character, but considerably lower in price. Sauvignon Blanc responds well when growing in flint and chalk soils.

Pale yellow with silvery green highlights. The nose elicits notes of candied apricots and citrus. In the mouth, spicy vanilla notes reinforce the aromatic profile, The wine displays a Sancerre-like minerality and grainy texture.

"Apricot and orchard fruits on the nose, and a lively palate with a lovely texture and balance. Zippy fresh finish."

The Producer

Domaine de Villargeau

Successors of numerous generations of winemakers, two brothers, Jean-Fernand and François, decided in 1991 to clear old vineyard parcels where flint-based soils allow for a full expression of Sauvignon Blanc. Year after year, the vineyard of the Domaine de Villargeau (Villargeau Estate) grew and diversified with the planting of red grape varieties, Pinot noir and Gamay, to complete the trilogy of the Coteaux du Giennois appellation.
