Tasting Notes

"The dry, sparkling non-vintage Cremant de Bourgogne (100% Chardonnay) offers up notes of orange blossoms, tangerine oil and lemon rind. Fresh, lively, medium-bodied, penetrating and long, this is a sensational value in sparkling Chardonnay."

The Producer

Marie-Pierre Manciat

Marie-Pierre Manciat hails from a lineage of winemakers with a history dating back to 1871. Her childhood was spent amidst the cellars and vineyards during school breaks, immersing herself in invaluable knowledge. In 2002, she stepped into the role of the sixth-generation winemaker, inheriting the family estate. Raised with a profound respect for tradition and a commitment to time-tested winemaking methods, her family imparted the values of prioritizing quality over quantity.

Her father, Claude Manciat, elevated the family's standing in the Maconnais region, transitioning from bulk sales to crafting and bottling their own wines in the early 1980s. His meticulous approach to viticulture and vinification resulted in wines of exceptional purity and texture. The Manciats, pioneers of sustainable agriculture, continue the rare practice of hand-harvesting in the Macon.

Before assuming leadership from her parents, Marie-Pierre initiated her project, Lacrochette-Manciat, in 1991, gradually acquiring vineyards. Currently, she oversees 22 hectares with unwavering passion, striving to enhance the estate continuously. Her philosophy centers on humility, acknowledging the role of winemakers as nurturers of what nature provides.

She emphasizes the significance of respecting terroir, believing soil profoundly influences grapes, and the resultant wine mirrors the soil's quality. Allowing each area to express its personality, Marie-Pierre ages her wines uniquely, whether in stainless steel tanks or oak barrels. Ultimately, she perceives wine as a refreshing drink, seeking a balance between depth, complexity, minerality, and drinkability across all her creations.
