"The 2013 Finca Valdepoleo is pure Tempranillo from a vineyard planted in 1973 at 630 meters altitude, located in the village of Laguardia, where the winery and all of their vineyards are located. 2013 was a rainy year with low temperatures in the spring. This wine fermented in small stainless steel tanks with indigenous yeasts and malolactic in those same vats, followed by 14 months in French barriques. This wine clearly shows the character of the vintage: light colored and very fragrant, with floral notes, a little atypical for Pujanza. Here they aimed for lower extraction because there was less ripeness and didn't want to extract any green notes. The palate is medium-bodied, with fine tannins and lively acidity, vibrant and lively. This is very drinkable, its freshness makes it ideal for gastronomy. I love this wine."

Bodegas Pujanza is located in Laguardia, in the heart of the Rioja Alavesa and at the foot of the Sierra de Cantabria - a place where the altitude is regarded as the limit for grape growing. It is the locale that marks the personality of Pujanza wines - the climate, the soils, the know-how passed from generation to generation.
Carlos San Pedro is the fifth generation of a family of growers. He was born and raised among vines, barrels, vats and fermentation aromas from his ancestors’ winery, located below the family home. At the age of 25 he set up his own bodega. Initially, both the vineyards and the winemaking facilities belonged to the family. Subsequently, goal was to recover the fundamental roots of Rioja, focusing on the terroir, with his own grapes and wines from a single vineyard plot.
In 2001 the first vintage from the current bodega was produced. Pujanza currently operates 40 hectares of vines, all within the boundaries of Laguardia. The aim of Carlos San Pedro is to continue in the search for those special vineyards which are destined to be the source of wines with a personality of their own.
