“Healthy bright yellow; darker than the Chassagne. Sexy aromas and flavors of musky peach and spices. Plush, smooth and very dry in the mouth, conveying a tactile quality to its sappy, savory stone fruit flavors. Finishes fine and long, with noteworthy depth. A higher percentage of old vines here.”

Once you start to drink amazing white wines, it is really hard to go backwards. Burgundy in particular is very interesting because when you drink a well made Village wine at the right time, it can blow away a 1er or Grand Cru wine. There is typically less oak in a Village wine which allows the terroir to shine through. The Puligny and Chassagne from Bachelet Monnot have not quite reached their peak, but are likely to do so in the next 24 months. On the other hand, they are drinking extremely well right now and to think that they are only getting better is quite exciting…

Well, we got a little lucky here. The new PO’s of the Puligny and Chassagne wines landed in the little window where the Euro was a bit lower meaning the prices came in $5/bottle lower than last time. In the end, these wines are worth whatever they cost as you will have no less than 6 great experiences from a 6-pack of wine, but a $30 savings on a 6-pack only ensures you have more $$ to spend on other stuff you love.

As people who read these emails may remember, we are currently making our way through Europe tasting as much wine as possible to ensure that we have the right wines coming in. We are tasting with Bachelet Monnot on the 21st and boy am i excited. This is always one of my favourite tastings and though the allocations tend to be teeny tiny, and the prices are not exactly cheap, this is some of our favourite wine to sell.

We tasted some Soave Classico yesterday that was stunning. I had no idea that Soave Classico could be this good. We are doing our best to ensure that these wines will arrive in Canada in the not too distant future.

After our Soave tasting in Veneto, we drove to Slovenia and Eastern Austria to taste with Gross. A long drive you say? Yes, the brothers Gross thought we were a bit crazy too especially as we have to drive 1000KM’s back to Prowein today. There is no length to which we will not go to ensure that we are doing the best we can by our clients!

Just so you know, Gross is making some of the best wine in Austria. After tasting the wines again yesterday going back to the early 90’s, i was blown away. Very few Sauvignon Blanc’s age as well as the wine from Gross. All i kept thinking throughout the whole tasting was, next time these wines come in, i am going to stuff my cellar full. We have exactly 3 cases remaining of the Weissburgunder, if you have read this far down, i highly recommend that you purchase at least one of these cases. Don’t worry, more Gross to come.

It is important to remember that Spring is coming. Get prepared. Make sure you have great white wine ready to go when the sun shines.

Have a super fantastic weekend everyone!
