Wine recommendations for Easter menus

From aperitif to dessert… We have planned everything for you Easter menus.

Get out the bubbles for the aperitif!

Cava Anna de Codorníu Brut NV

If you love Champagne but find the price hard to stomach, then this Chardonnay based Cava could be just right for you.

Is this the one of the world’s best value sparkling wines? Ed McCarthy thinks so. It is hard to argue that Cava, which is produced in the same method as Champagne, is not a steal at roughly a quarter of the price.

Cava has enough complexity that it works well with food, including appetizers, for instance charcuterie.

And this Cava Anna de Codorníu Brut scored 93 points / Great Value at the Ultimate Wine Challenge this year.

Another option to enjoy it is to make a Mimosa. What’s better to serve at brunch than a fabulous mimosa recipe made with dry sparkling wine and orange juice?!

A rose, because who says Easter also says spring

Legado del Moncayo Rosado by Isaac Fernandez Seleccion 2018

We couldn’t wait, and it seems that it finally happened : spring is starting to take its place and the temperature is slowly warming up. You know what that means, right? It’s soon the time of #roséallday!

Our selection? Legado del Moncayo Rosado by Isaac Fernandez Seleccion 2018. It’s really approachable. The pretty nose wafts from the glass in a blend of strawberries, melon, salty spice tones and a topnote of dried flowers. On the palate the wine is light-bodied, juicy and pretty soft in terms of acidity with a good core, nice focus and balance and a long, easy-going and tasty finish.

A light red for ham

Gamay Niagara Escarpment VQA by Cave Spring Cellars 2017

Gamay is a food-friendly wine. Fruit-filled and light on the palate, this is a versatile wine that pairs well with cold meats like ham.

Fruity Wines – Ham, with its sweet-and-salty richness, pairs best with wines that have a touch of sweetness, plenty of acidity and bold fruit. This gamay from Cave Spring is perfect!

Serious wine for the lamb

Passo del Sud Zinfandel by Tagaro 2017

If you’re planning to cook the traditional lamb for this Easter, rack of Lamb and Zinfandel pair beautifully. Passo del Sud Zinfandel by Tagaro 2017 is rich, soft and loaded with fruit, exotic spices and tons of power. Its perfect to match with lamb.

By the way, we were not surprised to hear that our excitement for this wine was shared by Luca Maroni, Italy’s premier wine critic who rated it 94 points.

And what do we drink with chocolate?

Syrocco Syrah by Domaine Ouled Thaleb 2015

It’s impossible to talk about easter without thinking about chocolate.

Sommeliers generally suggest pairing chocolate weight with wine weight, think heavy rich reds like Zinfandel or Syrah.

Syrocco by Domaine Ouled Thaleb 2015 is just amazing wine! 100% syrah, this wine is produced at the modern winery of Thalvin, not far from Casablanca, from selected parcels of Syrah vines, some 48 years old. This Syrah would fool most people who would think its from southern French.
