"The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin "aux Echézeaux" Vieilles Vignes from Philippe Jouan is an excellent young wine. The bouquet is deep, complex and gently sappy, offering up scents of red and black cherries, pomegranate, gamebird, a complex base of soil, woodsmoke, raw cocoa, a touch of mustard seed and cedar. On the palate the wine is pure, young and full-bodied, with a lovely core of fruit, excellent soil undertow and grip, ripe tannins and excellent focus and balance on the long, complex and very promising finish. As I have mentioned before, the lieu à dit of "aux Echézeaux" lies right on the Morey-Gevrey border and shares a lot of Morey St. Denis personality traits with the vineyards that lie across the border in Morey proper. This is a lovely bottle in the making. (Drink between 2035-2075)"
