"The 2022 Gevrey-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes comes from eight parcels from 40 years old to some planted in 1915. Always one of my favorite cuvées from Magnien, this is more defined and energetic than the regular Gevrey, offering Morello cherries, strawberries and rose petals. The palate is medium-bodied with fine-grain tannins and a mixture of red and black fruit, supple in texture. It is not a concentrated Gevrey but feels very cohesive towards the finish. Give this puppy a couple of years in bottle."

The Magnien family is one of the oldest wine making families in Burgundy and in particular in Côte de Nuits thanks to the Domaine Henri Magnien, a family estate that took root in Gevrey Chambertin in the 1600s. No less than twelve generations have taken advantage of a magnificent plot made largely of old vines on Gevrey-Chambertin and Corton.
The estate as it exists today was set up by Henri Magnien in 1987, and presently operated by Charles Magnien. The vineyard covers 6 hectares of old vines (massal selection of the family). The culture and the vinification are rather traditional. Charles invested in the cellar to further increase the quality of the wines opening a new winery in 2018. The wines have a lot of charm, suppleness and elegance, with a classic use of the new barrel and a moderate extraction.
