Tasting Notes

"Lurid, violet color. Lively, mineral-tinged aromas of cherry, black raspberry and candied flowers pick up a suggestion of incense as the wine stretches out. Sweet and seamless in the mouth, offering intense cherry liqueur, dark berry and spicecake flavors and a suave violet pastille accent. Finishes silky, floral and impressively long, with fine-grained tannins adding shape and gentle grip. (Aged for 14 months in French oak barrels, followed by 10 months in a stainless steel tank.)"(JR)

The Producer

Quinta da Muradella

In 1999, during their college years, Spanish natives Patrick Mata and Alberto Orte joined forces to establish Olé Imports. Hailing from winemaking families with roots dating back to the 1800s, the duo's inaugural selection of wines introduced to the U.S. originated from Alberto's family vineyards in Montilla, Andalucía. Patrick, recognized as a Wine Enthusiast Tastemaker, Food & Wine Magazine Tastemaker, and Wine Advocate Personality of the Year, earned praise from Robert Parker, who hailed him as 'one of the most driven, passionate, and talented young men in the wine world.' Alberto, a rising star in the 'New Spain' movement, crafts exceptional wines from distinctive Spanish terroirs, including renowned labels like Atlántida, Escalada do Sil, and Bodegas Poniente. He also oversees the production of numerous other wines imported by Olé & Obrigado from Spain and Portugal. Alberto is dedicated to reviving nearly extinct grape varieties like Tintilla and Vijiriega Blanco in the DO region of Cádiz in southwestern Andalucía, with a focus on creating wines that reflect their unique origins.
