Tasting Notes

"Floral aromatics of rose petals and red fruits with a savoury and dusty edge. Opens relatively quickly to showcase territory-driven tones of dried black fruit, resin, tar, cigar smoke, black olive and scorched earth. Medium-full with excellent complexity and persistence. There are fine tannins on the finish and a balanced acidity that will see this wine looking good into the future. Nice to taste an Etna Rosso with some age on it. Beautiful sense of place; extremely well made."

The Producer

Tenuta di Fessina

Tenuta di Fessina is a relatively new winery, first established in 2007 by Silvia Maestrelli. Just after 13 years, she is now considered one of the most successful producers of the Etna area and a pioneer in the world of modern Sicilian viticulture. She is, no doubt, the heart and femininity of her wines.

Why are these wines getting so much buzz? Volcanic soils account for only 1 percent of the world’s surface but contribute a much larger percentage of the world’s great vineyards.

Ash-enriched soil is also responsible for smoky, earthy reds born in the shadow of Sicily’s Mount Etna; they have captivated adventurous wine lovers looking to shock their palates with something different.
