The Lavau family's wine journey, fueled by a deep love for the land and a passion for winemaking, originated in Saint-Émilion during the 19th century. Its story unfolded further in Tunisia, where René Lavau and his son successfully transformed a modest estate of vines and orange trees into the largest wine producer in the country. Returning to France in the 1960s, Jean-Guy Lavau (René's grandson) and his wife Anne-Marie assumed control of a small winemaking cellar in Sablet, nestled in the heart of the Rhone Valley. This marked the establishment of Maison LAVAU in 1965.
Fast forward 30 years, and Frédéric and Benoît Lavau have joined the family enterprise, elevating it to a respected and renowned name in Rhone Valley winemaking. They not only secured the future of the winemaking business but also expanded their expertise, becoming creators of cuvées and producers. The family acquired vineyards in the Rasteau, Valréas, and Côtes du Rhône designations, forming partnerships with Bénédicte and Charles Bonnet, the proprietors of Château Maucoil in Châteauneuf-du-Pape.
