Kilbeggan is named after St Bécán, one of the Twelve Apostles of Ireland who founded a monastery in the area in the 6th century. Smooth and malty. The nose is smooth and gentle with nut oils, hazelnut and barley, cereal sweetness and a little peat. The palate is of good body with honeyed sweetness and malt. The finish is short with oaked dryness.

Kilbeggan
Situated in the town of Kilbeggan along the Brosna River, Kilbeggan Distillery holds the distinction of being Ireland's oldest licensed distillery. Its roots date back to 1757 when Matthew MacManus secured a license to craft whiskey. The Locke family assumed ownership in 1843, overseeing a period of prosperity until production ceased in 1954. In 1982, a local group, the Kilbeggan Preservation and Development Association, rallied support and funds for the distillery's restoration. Subsequently, it reopened as a museum in 1988. Cooley Distillery acquired the establishment that year, gaining the licence to produce whiskey under the Kilbeggan brand. Distillation recommenced on March 19, 2007, with small batch whiskeys crafted in Kilbeggan and larger-scale production occurring at Cooley Distillery in Louth.
