Tasting Notes

Roberto Voerzio, who belongs to a winemaking family, decided to go it alone in 1986 on a 2-hectare plot on the family vineyard. His domaine has gradually acquired a fine reputation for its quality wines, which offer a perfect combination of power and elegance. He is now one of the Barolo big hitters. Accomplished wine grower and skillful vintner Roberto Voerzio specializes in high-density planting and very low yields with a view to distilling the quintessence of his terroirs. He is known notably for creating the very opposite of powerful, extracted and woody wines. Voerzio reflects the ethos of combining modernity and tradition and his bottles are iconic and authentic.

The 2019 Langhe Nebbiolo Disanfrancesco is rich and complex with aromas of black cherry, dried wildflowers, mint and white pepper.  It is a full-bodied cuvée, boasting delicate tartness, velvety tannins, and a long finish. Wonderfully aromatic and pure.

The Producer

Az. Agri. Roberto Voerzio

Roberto Voerzio is now a living legend of Piemont, founding his philosophy on 3 pillars: prime location, natural farming, and the unique maintenance of vineyards—low yields, extreme selection (green harvest) with high density plantation. These are not the Barolo’s of yesteryear, but rather a rich and luxurious approach to Nebbiolo that produces spellbinding wines that are approachable and accessible while young. Everything this superstar touches turns to gold.

As with all the world's greatest winemakers, the secret to Roberto’s success lies in his maniacally strict and labour-intensive approach to farming. He takes this to the extreme and earns numerous accolades. His wines are considered authentic, near ‘cult’-like masterpieces and are sought after by collectors and wine lovers worldwide.
