Created to honour the long standing tradition of the passing down of knowledge; deep mahogany colour in the glass; on the nose it is complex with rich smoky, seaside mineral and bitter chocolate notes, followed by vanilla, fresh chestnut and malty sweetness; the palate offers a spicy kick and peat notes lead to a dry finish

The Producer

Laphroaig

The Laphroaig distillery was founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston. The Johnstons, hailing from the Clan Donald, are likely members of the MacIain of Ardnamurchan branch of the clan. The distillery's final Johnston family operator was Ian Hunter, Sandy Johnston's nephew. Ian, who passed away without children in 1954, bequeathed the distillery to his manager, Bessie Williamson.

In the 1960s, Long John International, a Scottish distiller, purchased the distillery. In 1973, Whitbread acquired Long John International and, consequently, the distillery. Whitbread later sold the distillery to Allied Domecq in 1989. In 2005, Fortune Brands acquired the brand as part of the brands divested by Pernod Ricard to secure regulatory approval for its takeover of Allied Domecq. Fortune Brands then separated its business lines in 2011, establishing its spirits business as Beam Inc. Suntory Holdings acquired Beam in April 2014.

Laphroaig holds the distinction of being the only whisky granted the Royal Warrant of the Prince of Wales, awarded during a personal visit to the distillery in 1994. The distillery recognizes Charles by his Scottish title of Duke of Rothesay. The 15-year-old variant is said to be Prince, now King Charles', preferred Scotch whisky.
