"The 2015 Côte Rôtie Le Viallière isn’t part of the single vineyard boxed set and will be released on its own. After tasting it, I certainly understand why as it’s an incredible wine. Possessing awesome purity in its blackberry, blackcurrants, charcoal, meat, and dried flower aromatics, it’s full-bodied, concentrated, and sexy, yet also perfectly balanced, seamless and elegant. It’s a complete, classic Côte Rôtie that will benefit from 3-4 years of cellaring and keep for two decades."

"I didn't taste the 2015 Cote Rotie La Vialliere last year, so here's how the wine is looking in 2018: full-bodied, rich and tannic. This puppy needs some serious house-training before it's ready to open; maybe try a bottle in 2025? It's inky in color, chewy in texture and loaded with dark fruit, ending on a long licorice note. The last time I was inside Stéphane Ogier's new winery, it was more or less just a shell. Now, it's been completed, and what a showpiece it is, with enormous glass windows looking out onto the hillside vineyards. It was a comprehensive tasting of the 2016s and 2017s, but at Ogier's insistence, I retasted several of the 2015s I reviewed last year. Since I scored the Côte Rôtie Reserve, la Côte Blonde, la Belle Hélène and Lancement within a point of what they received last time, I haven't bothered to write them up. All are terrific wines I was happy to try again. Starting a few years ago, Ogier has offered mixed six packs consisting of the Côte Rôtie Reserve and five of its components (the la Viallière is also sold on its own), so I've written up a number of these components separately. "Bright purple. An exotically perfumed bouquet evokes dark fruit preserves, spicecake and incense. A sexy floral element builds with air. Impressively energetic on the palate, offering intense blueberry, cherry pie and floral pastille flavors that deepen steadily on the back half. The floral note comes back strong on the impressively long, youthfully tannic finish, which leaves a lively mineral accent behind. (JR)"
