Tasting Notes

"Beautiful ruby-red colour. The nose develops aromas of blackcurrant, black cherry and a hint of spice. Rich, it expresses a beautiful structure with mellow tannins. It is a wine which brilliantly highlights the potential of modern wines of Médoc. Adopting the philosophy of the Fondabet vineyard, this wine expresses a beautiful typicality, offering an exceptional value."

The Producer

Château Fonbadet

During the mid 1800, Fonbadet was owned by the Clarke family. onward the end of the century, the Larose family, of Gruaud Larose fame, gained control of the estate. The Current owner is Piere Peyronie. His grandfather, who was the estate manager for Chateau Lafite Rothschild, purchased the property in the early 20th century. During the 1930s, Robert Peyronie began to accumulate vineyards that were neglected or sold at auction. The name Fonbadet was used for his best wines.

While the actual Chateau is located very near to Chateau Lynch Bages, Chateau Fonbadet 20 hectares of vineyards are split into 3 separate areas - 13 hectares in North Pauillac, 4 hectares are near to Chateau Pichon Baron and the final 3 hectares are in the centre of the appelation. The vineyards are planted 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Merlot, 15% Cabernet Franc, 2.5% Petit Verdot and 2.5% Malbec.

Interestingly, Pierre's wife's grandfather was the estate manager for Chateau Mouton Rothschild.
