The Morgante winery embodies the ambitious venture of a single family, spanning five generations of expertise in viticulture. In 1994, Antonio Morgante, along with his sons Carmelo and Giovanni, took the spirited decision to turn their vineyard grapes into wine. This marked the initiation of a steadfast commitment to achieving optimal results using local grapes, all the while embracing innovation. In 1997, the family enlisted the services of Riccardo Cotarella as their winemaker. Cotarella, widely acknowledged for his expertise in crafting captivating wines from Italy's indigenous varietals, shares the Morgante family's fervor for creating exceptional red wines from Nero d'Avola.
Situated in the unspoiled countryside of southern Sicily, the Morgante winery occupies a hilly terrain at an elevation of approximately 1200-1800 feet above sea level, merely 45 miles from the magnificent Valley of the Temples of Agrigento. The property encompasses 500 acres of vineyards and almond trees, thriving in an ideal viticultural setting with a Mediterranean climate and diverse soils ranging from clay and calcareous to marl.
In Sicily, Nero d'Avola stands as the unrivaled red grape for wines of excellence, and it is precisely this vine that the Morgante family has consistently cultivated. Every aspect of production, from the vineyard to the cellar, undergoes rigorous oversight by each family member, all of whom are devoted to crafting wines of the utmost quality.
