Tasting Notes

The late Jim Clendenen crafted another iconic wine with the 2010 Au Bon Climat XXX Anniversary Nuits-Blanches au Bouge Chardonnay. This anniversary release, following the award-winning tradition of the winery’s XX and XXV Anniversary selections, makes a remarkable statement. Featuring perfectly ripe fruit, great acidity, and ample structure, this wine promises a long, enjoyable life while being ready to enjoy immediately. Its heady aroma and deep flavors of pear, tropical fruit, sautéed hazelnuts in fresh creamery butter, vanilla, and Asian spices culminate in a long, dry spicy finish. Bold yet harmonious, this Chardonnay balances the full presence of Nuits-Blanches with the elegant, discreet qualities of Le Bouge.

The Producer

Au Bon Climat

Au Bon Climat is one of those estates whose reputation precedes them. Since 1982, owner/winemaker, Jim Clendenen has profoundly shaped the landscape of quality Pinot Noir and Chardonnay in California’s Central Coast, creating pure expressions of Santa Barbara County before the region was immortalized in the 2004 movie, Sideways, and long before it became the go-to appellation for “The New California.”
