Tasting Notes

The star power behind this bottle is ex Pétrus winemaker Jean-Claude Berrouet, who was head winemaker for 44 years at the iconic estate. The appeal of this wine is its finesse, aromatics and minerality which conveys power by way of persistence. It also happens to be HEAD-SWIMMINGLY DELICIOUS!

“Great value drinking from the Yllera Group, Pepe Yllera is a judciously wooded cuvée of Tempranillo with a little Cabernet Sauvignon. Juicy, perfumed and floral, it combines summer pudding sweetness, with supple tannins and a kiss of vanilla spice."

Tim Atkin, MW

The Producer

Yllera

Yllera was founded in 1970 and is strategically located in Rueda. Yllera has vineyards in the key areas of Castilla y León including Ribera del Duero as well as in Rioja. The Yllera family has been making quality wines for 6 generations.

Yllera could very well be a completely different project from 2016 onwards, as a result of their collaboration with Jean-Claude Berrouet of Petrus fame in their new venture called Vivaltus. But what they experienced with Berrouet changed the approach for all their wines, including the whites, which are seeing a complete transformation. They might need a little more time until everything settles down. I tasted some unbottled samples, and some wines are not clearly defined if they are Vivaltus or Yllera, and the change might take time to permeate the cheaper ranges, but Yllera is in the major leagues now... - Luis Gutierrez, Wine Advocate
