Tasting Notes

In 1988, Steve Girard moved from California to Oregon, and began crafting beautifully balanced cool climate Pinot Noir in what was then uncharted territory for most wine drinkers. His passion for the region has continued through today, where Benton Lane is still producing incredible value Pinot Noir in a region that has since become world famous. Working with a variety of rootstocks and clones on sedimentary and volcanic soils, Benton Lane Pinot Noir is always characterized by being quintessentially Oregonian. The estates devotion to Pinot Noir has led to a complete expertise crafted from over 30 vintages of experience. The grapes are sustainably farmed, and aged in 100% French Oak (20% new) for 10 months.

Growing season and cellar practice bring a depth and concentration to the wine. This vintage shows a fine synergy, with all components married well. The wine is rich and deep, with flavours of boysenberry, cassis, and white pepper. The finish carries the sweet note of toasted oak from fine French oak barrels. Some wines are undeniably well-balanced: this Pinot certainly is.

The Producer

Benton Lane

Benton Lane Winery, located in the picturesque Willamette Valley in Oregon, was founded by Steve and Carol Girard in 1988. The Girards' passion for wine began during their travels through Europe, where they were introduced to the art of winemaking. After returning to the United States, they set their sights on creating a winery that would reflect their love of the craft. Benton Lane Winery was born out of this vision, with a focus on producing world-class Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, and Pinot Gris.

The winery's success can be attributed in part to the talent of its winemaker, Michael Hammond. With over 30 years of experience in the wine industry, his dedication to crafting exceptional wines has earned Benton Lane Winery numerous accolades and awards over the years.

The winery's vineyards are located in the heart of the Willamette Valley, where the climate and soil combine to create ideal growing conditions for Pinot Noir. The region's cool, wet winters and mild, dry summers allow the grapes to ripen slowly and develop complex flavors, resulting in wines that are rich, aromatic, and full of character.

Benton Lane Winery is committed to sustainability having implemented a number of eco-friendly initiatives, including the installation of solar panels and the use of composting and cover crops in its vineyards.
