In 1962, Pierre Lafond, aged thirty-two, established the first commercial winery in Santa Barbara County after the end of prohibition. Two years later, he set up a winery facility on Anacapa Street, merely two blocks away from the Pacific Ocean.
Santa Barbara Winery has gained significant visibility and success, earning numerous awards for a variety of wines. Lafond is currently undergoing a substantial expansion to cater to the demands of the consuming public.
Originally a retailer, Lafond's wine and cheese shop served as a gathering spot for many of Santa Barbara's wine enthusiasts. His decision to enter wine production stemmed from two reasons: his appreciation for fine wines, particularly French ones, and the belief that it would be a sound business venture.
Lafond Winery has been privileged to produce and gain national recognition for their acclaimed Chardonnays, Pinot Noirs, and Syrahs.
It's important to remember that taste is subjective, and personal preferences play a significant role.
