"I tasted the 2015 Planella, which is the current vintage on sale. It's from a slightly warmer year with a little more Syrah, a grape that has been reduced in the blend in the following vintages. There is black fruit and a touch of leather and graphite, licorice and an earthy touch. The wines have changed since 2013, and this is getting to the style they want—finesse without losing complexity and the sense of place; it's not a matter of making less-concentrated wines. It's somewhat marked by the Syrah, which represents maybe 30% to 35% of the blend, and the rest is Cariñena. They have also been fine-tuning the use of oak, trying to find barriques that do not mark the wines."

The D'Anguera family has been rooted in the same property, cultivating vines since 1820. Undoubtedly, they have become masters of their trade. With seven generations devoted to winemaking, Joan and Josep, the current owners, inherited a legacy from their father, a pioneering figure in winemaking who introduced the Syrah grape to the region.
Tragedy struck in the late 90s with the untimely death of their father. In response, Joan and Josep, with the guidance of their mother Merce, made a significant departure from the commercially popular Monsant style, characterized by robust extraction and high alcohol content. Instead, they sought to create wines that were more refined, feminine, and floral, yet retained substantial weight and power. Recognizing similarities with the Côtes du Rhône area in France in their terroir, they embarked on a transformative journey.
After a visit to Château Rayas and with the support of Joan Valencia, the influential owner of Cuvée 3000 and a prominent wine distributor in Spain, they committed wholeheartedly to their new direction. Joan and Josep initiated the removal of Syrah vines, replacing them with Grenache and reshaping their winemaking style and techniques. Embracing biodynamic farming practices, foot crushing, and only partially de-stemming the vines, Joan D'Anguera wines swiftly earned certification from the Demeter Biodynamic® Processing Standard.
It's important to remember that taste is subjective, and personal preferences play a significant role.
