In the heart of Porcia here are the walls of the imposing Castle, composed of a central keep built on the remains of a Roman castrum and cut off following an earthquake in the nineteenth century; from a Renaissance wing and a Venetian-style building. The orientation of the castle reflects its original defensive function: look at the mountains from which the barbaric hordes arrived and feared, protecting a splendid neo-gothic style Cathedral behind it.
From the twelfth century the Castle has become a permanent home of the noble Porcia family, who ruled these lands for eight centuries and here will be emperors such as Charles V (1532) appreciating, as the memorials of the time, good wine, cooking and hospitality. Over the centuries the Castle has suffered heavy damage especially by earthquakes that have compromised the original architecture. The reconstruction that followed have given back an eclectic complex, that is, consisting of buildings of different styles such as a Renaissance palace and a building in Venetian taste, which have been added to what is left of the old Castle, that is the imposing central tower of medieval era.
Respect for the land and good agricultural practices are what have made the success of the Historical Winery of the Castle of Porcia possible. A reality that has become a source of pride for the entire territory since, for 83 generations, the Porcia family has renewed the agricultural tradition of quality producing excellent wines: an area of 840 hectares of which 150 are dedicated to viticulture ( DOC Friuli Grave and Lison-Pramaggiore), implemented according to the most modern and innovative systems of agricultural technology with limited production per plant.
It's important to remember that taste is subjective, and personal preferences play a significant role.
